This year in College Writing II, I learned things that will help me both in my academic career, but also in my everyday life.
Since the first day of class, something that stuck with me throughout the whole semester was the phrase "writing is revising". I had heard this many times in my other writing classes, but it wasn't until this semester that I really made use of this saying. In previous years I would write one draft, finalize it, and turn it in for a "fair" grade. This semester I did not want to settle for "fair" I wanted to give my all for an "outstanding" grade. I realized that the more I revised little at a time, the easier it was to get the paper done. Before I would stress and spend hours trying to pull out a paper for the next day. I love seeing how after multiple revisions a paper can come together and almost write itself just from multiple drafts. So if any students are reading this, take my advice and make life easier for yourselves, REVISE, REVISE, REVISE.
Writing has never been one of my favorite subjects (sorry Dr. Kyburz), but Dr.Kyburz has really done an amazing job at changing my perspective. In high school I absolutely hated the strict format of the essays that were assigned to us, there was no way anyone could really express themselves in their writing. I always felt like a robot writing the same paper, after paper, after paper. This semester I was really able to put my own twist to writing and make it my own
I just wanted to say a little thank you to Dr.Kyburz for motivating me and really pushing me to my full potential. When I came into this class I wasn't a very confident writer and in many instances I would hold myself back and if there is one thing that this class has taught me is to never hold back and always just to try your best.
I'm glad you're more confident now, but I've never had a doubt. You are smart, poised, and articulate. You're a writer, all right! I'm excited for you, going into Marketing. What a thrilling time to think about reaching people with the range of tools we now have. Best of luck!
