Skiing Disaster
Being a college student and full time worker, my weekends are usually pretty boring, and typically nothing exciting ever goes on, so this weekend I thought I would go a little crazy and actually leave the comfort of my home. I decided to go skiing with my friends and family. Skiing has always been a big part of my life coming from a background of professional skiers. My aunt was an Olympic qualifying cross country skier back in Poland and my dad was a ski jumper. My entire family grew up skiing and it was always just a part of our lives. Every year we go on big family ski trips to Colorado, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Poland. This year we didn't get to go on a family ski trip but this weekend outing substituted for it. Once we got to the mountain in Wisconsin, we immediately hit the slopes. The first couple of runs I was taking it slow just trying to get the feel and hang of things. I soon started to get a little cocky and started showing off, and let me tell you, this did not end well. I was trying to race my dad on a black diamond when all of a sudden I hit an icy spot on the slope and went flying. I did one of those dramatic tumbles down the hill. I am not over exaggerating when I say I thought I died for a second. The rest of the day I had a pounding headache, but I continued to ski on. I even competed in a giant slalom race with my local ski club with this headache. Once I got home my parents saw I wasn't feeling well so they forced me to go to the emergency clinic and it turned out I had a concussion. The moral of my story is, don't be cocky, and ALWAYS wear a helmet (even if it's not as fashionable as my Gucci sunglasses that broke when I fell).
